Freezer Meal Party

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Saturday, March 19th 9:30 AM til around 1:30 PM

The time was spent preparing each recipe by combining raw ingredients and placing them in storage bags. Each bag can be stored in the freezer (for up to 3 months) and can then be dumped into a crock pot or baking pan to cook on the day you wish to eat it. Everyone went home with 6 meals! This was a great way to share recipes and get a stock of homemade food in our freezers! Look out for another freezer meal party in the future!

Monthly Meeting for Girls in Cedar Rapids, IA

Girl’s Coffee Talk

Who: Ladies (invite a friend!)

What: An hour or so to chat, learn about each other, and enjoy food or drink

When: 9:30 AM on the first Saturday of each month

Where: We’ll be trying several coffee shops in the area, so keep checking back to see where each meeting is held!

Consider joining us for a time of relaxation with a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate!

We will be meeting again on Saturday, May 7th @ 9:30 AM. Location TBD

We are always trying out new coffee shops, and we’d love to hear which one is your favorite! If you’d like us to meet at a specific place next month, let us know by suggesting a shop below. (Things to consider: is this coffee shop large enough for 4-8 women to sit together? Is it very busy on Saturday mornings? If there is no seating available is there a park or alternate area to sit and chat?)

Ski Trip – CANCELLED

ski-open-racing

Do you love to ski? Does your spouse love to ski but you’d rather cut off your own arm? This is the perfect opportunity for both of you! On Saturday, February 27th a group from Core will be carpooling to Sundown Mountain in Dubuque.

We’re going to meet at the Marion Walmart (at Hwy 151 & 13) at 7:45 am to carpool and plan to stay all day (Sundown closes at 9 pm).

If we can get a group of 15 or more we can get lift tickets & rent equipment at a discount. ($63 each, otherwise it will cost $74)  People who want to ski (or snowboard) need to RSVP by Friday (Feb. 12th) since we have to make a reservation to get the group rate.

For those of us who don’t want to ski we will be hanging out in the lodge — playing games and staying cozy!  Everyone is responsible for their own food and snacks. The lodge offers a cafeteria which serves a variety of foods and drinks. Carry in food is allowed in the South Lodge when it is open or on the lower level of the North Lodge when the South Lodge is closed. The North Lodge has a fireplace on both floors and a Pizza Haus on the lower level.

Social Planning Meeting

In order to have great opportunities to connect outside of ABF on Sunday we regularly get together to plan and brainstorm event ideas. Sometimes social and outreach events get planned spontaneously, but the majority of our events are planned out in advance at what we call “Social Planning Meetings.” If you’ve never been to one of these meetings, we’d love to have you join us at the next one!

Do you:

1.) Have an idea for a group social or outreach event?

2.) Desire to assist in organizing an event?

3.) Need to plan your social schedule weeks or months in advance?

If any of these three things describes you, please join us as we plan for the next few months of Core! We need you!

Our next meeting is Saturday, January 30th @ 9:30 AM. Girls will meet at the Millers’ house, and Guys will meet at the Grays’.

An optional giving opportunity is available. Please bring an unwrapped gift or gift card in an unsealed envelope, $20 value or less. Items should have a pampering theme and will be used to bless a widow or single mom in our church.

Isaac Newton Pies

Each year Isaac Newton Christian Academy holds a fundraiser selling handmade apple and berry pies. A group of us went on October 19th, 2015 to work a 4 hour shift. Each of us participated in different tasks in an assembly line, and it was fun! Thanks everyone who made it!

“Newton’s Pies features two fantastic pies for our customers, our traditional Dutch Apple Pie and our Triple Berry Pie.  Both pies are topped with a delicious crumb topping.  The Triple Berry Pie has raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.  The pies are perfect for holiday gatherings and make great gifts. The cost is $15.00 each.

“Each pie is made fresh and then frozen for your convenience, ready to take and place in your freezer until you bake it.  Frozen pies will be available for pickup starting Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th at Isaac Newton Christian Academy.”
